When new utility services begin construction in your neighborhood, you may notice different colored utility flags and paint markings along your easement and right-of-way. These flags are used to identify the locations of important infrastructure like water, electric, sewer lines, and communications cables.
They help protect your property, your neighbors, and construction crews by clearly marking what’s buried underground. For safety and accuracy, please do not move the flags or markings.
These flags and markers act as visual guides for what’s below the ground. Each color represents a different utility or service:
For fiber internet construction, orange markings typically indicate communications infrastructure such as fiber-optic lines that power high-speed internet service.
Fiber networks rely on carefully installed underground cables that carry data using light signals, which is one of the reasons fiber internet deliver faster speeds, lower latency, and more reliable performance than traditional cable internet.
Construction crews rely on these utility locates and markings to know where underground utilities are placed. If flags are moved or incorrectly positioned, there is a risk of damaging other utility lines.
If you need to mow your lawn, try to carefully maneuver around the flags so they remain in their original positions. If a flag does get moved, place it back where it was originally located as best as possible.
Construction teams often do not know where sprinkler systems, landscape lighting, invisible pet fences, or other private installations are located.
If you have any of these on your property, please notify Ezee Fiber or the construction crews ahead of time so they can work around them and help prevent accidental damage.
Providing this information helps keep the fiber installation process smooth and efficient, especially when crews are preparing to connect homes to the Ezee Fiber network.
You can remove the utility flags once construction work in your area has been completed. Crews typically do not return to collect the flags.
After your installation is finished and construction is wrapped up, you’re free to dispose of the flags.
Once the build is complete, your neighborhood will be ready for high-speed fiber internet service, delivering fast symmetrical upload and download speeds for streaming, gaming, remote work, and smart home devices.
